George Tsertsvadze


Giorgi Tsertsvadze studied law at Tbilisi State University from 1999 to 2004.

In 2009, he defended his dissertation for the degree of PhD at the same university on the problematic issues of international arbitration.

He has received research grants and fellowships from the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law (Germany), the Volkswagen Foundation (Germany), the German Academic Exchange Service (Germany), the Chuo Law School (Japan), the Japan Association of Arbitrators (Japan), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID, USA), and has been actively involved in their programs at various times.

In the spring of 2017, Giorgi was granted the Georg Forster Research Award.

Giorgi has been practicing law since 2003 and since 2004, he has been a member of the Georgian Bar Association.

In 2008, he founded the law firm “J&T Consulting” and has served as its permanent managing partner since 2009.

Since 2012, he has been a mediator licensed by the Frank Evans Center for Conflict Resolution (Houston, Texas, USA).

Giorgi was the chairman of the Georgian Association of Mediators from 2015 to 2018, and he is the executive director of the National Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2016.

Giorgi Tsertsvadze is the author of more than ten scientific papers published in Georgia, Germany, Austria, Japan and the USA. In addition, the managing partner of “J&T Consulting” is the author of textbooks on international arbitration, mediation, and investment law, and co-author of the textbook on contract law and commentaries on the Civil Code of Georgia.

In 2011-2012, he served as an expert on mediation on the working group on Civil Procedure Code amendments formed at the initiative of the High Council of Justice of Georgia.

Since 2006, Giorgi Tsertsvadze has been actively given trainings on legal issues related to business regulation at the invitation of the Training Center of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, the Training Center of the Georgian Bar Association, the Business Training Association, the European Academic Center and other private and public organizations.

Giorgi Tsertsvadze is an associate professor at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and an invited lecturer at the Free University of Tbilisi’s Business School.
